LIFE IS TOO SHORT TO SKIP A CELEBRATION

I AM TURNING 40
BUT I AM DOING
IT IN STYLE
Dear Friends
As I approach my prime, I can’t think of a better way to celebrate than by gathering with those who mean the most to me. I would love for you to join me on a weekend journey to Northern Spain, where we’ll indulge in great wine, delicious food, and joyful company!
Our adventure begins in vibrant Bilbao on Thursday, July 3rd, where we’ll enjoy the city’s lively charm. From there, we’ll journey together into the breathtaking Rioja region, where we’ll spend two days at my favorite vineyards. Nestled among rolling vineyards and scenic countryside, we’ll savor the best of Spanish hospitality—sunny days, indulgent meals, and great company.
Our weekend’s main event will be the Saturday evening of July 5th, so don’t plan on leaving to early on Sunday morning!
Below my current plans for hotels, lunch & dinner locations. To be able to fix the final agenda, please help me by filling in the form by end of January.
Logistics for now:
You will likely need to rent a car. In our what sup group chat you can coordinate if you want to share a car as a group. Plan on renting from Bilbao main station on Friday morning and returning to the airport, there is little extra cost.
Thursday night (3rd t 4th of July) we will have dinner/drinks near the old town of Bilbao. Linda and I will stay at the Tayko Bilbao. Feel free to book there or anywhere closely. We will check out restaurants and bars in April now and will update you on the location closer to the date.
Friday to Sunday (4th to 6th of July) we will all stay at the Viura Hotel in Rioja, which has been notified to reserve up to 20 rooms. Rates go from €190 to €230. Mention “Grupo Cabello”.
Friday lunch: Join us if you want for an optional gourmet lunch experience in a smaller group. Estimated costs €150 pP.
Friday (4th) night our good friends Nicole and Yann will be organising dinner together most likely at the hotel. More info to follow.
Saturday (5th) we will spend the day together at a beautiful Spanish Finca in the vineyards Hermanos Hernaiz: a shuttle will take you from the hotel to the location around 12:30, where we will have lunch, dinner, dancing, etc. Hasta que el cuerpo aguante decimos en Mexico.
No more official activities are planned for Sunday, as most of you will be heading back home. In case you do want to stay longer and do something together or share the ride to the airport, feel free to connect in our what sup group.
Some practical points:
Book your grandmas or preferred method of child outsourcing early. KIDS FREE WEEKEND! God knows I have enough of them :P
Direct flights from Zurich to Bilbao on Thursday and return on Sunday or Tuesday (horribly early I am afraid). Otherwise, there is a 1.5hr layover in Madrid.
Dress code vineyard chic, we are in Spain after all.
